About Me

Hey, I’m Paul!

This is my personal website. Some of the stuff is here is mostly for me (like the Collections section), but the rest is for you.
I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
I currently live in New York, New York.
I’m a software engineer. I’ve used OCaml, Ruby and TypeScript (with React) professionally, and I really enjoy Rust. Programming languages and compilers are really cool! I’ve also contributed to Postgres. I use vim as my text editor.
I’m a huge fan of Wisconsin sports teams. I built plaintextsports.com so I could more closely follow the Bucks, Brewers and Packers.
I built a command-line JSON viewer, jless while working on Plain Text Sports.
I currently work at Jane Street.
I used to live in San Francisco from 2016–2022.
I worked at OneSchema for a year during 2021-2022.
I briefly worked at Google on the Cloud SQL Postgres team from 2020-2021.
I run a fair amount. I ran 1000 miles in 2017 and 2018, and I've run a sub-5 minute mile.
I love playing squash (not racquetball)!
After college I worked at Affinity for three and a half years, working across the stack in Ruby and TypeScript, while also managing their infrastructure.
I went to Stanford University and graduated in 2015 with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science. I stayed a fifth year to get a Master’s, also in Computer Science.
I’m not very good, but I’m always down for a blitz game of chess!
I can also play the clarinet, and I played drums in the Stanford Band.
I love playing music! I took piano lessons growing up and currently take lessons in the city. I mostly play classical music and I especially love Chopin’s Nocturnes.
